Overview

If you’re an independent contractor on Worksome, you can be hired on a milestone-based contract. Each milestone has its name, due date, and amount, simplifying both project scope and payment requests.

Benefits for Contractors

  • Transparent Payment Stages – Get paid for each completed milestone.

  • Progress Clarity – Easily track which milestones are pending, submitted, or fully paid.

  • Organized Project Flow – Break a large project into manageable chunks.

1. Viewing Milestones

  1. Check Your Contract

    • Open the Conversation page.

    • Click Contract Details to see each milestone’s name, due date, and amount.

  2. No Editing

    • You can view, but cannot edit, the milestones set by the client.

2. Requesting Payment

Step 1: Create a Payment Request

  1. Go to Payment Requests or click Request Payment.

  2. Enter Work Dates

    • Specify the billing period.

    • Milestone due dates won’t auto-fill, so always enter your actual work period.

Step 2: Select a Milestone

  • In the Milestone Section, choose which milestone you’re billing for.

  • Only open milestones (no pending or completed payment request) will appear in the dropdown.

Step 3: Send Payment Request

  1. Submit the Request

    • Once submitted, the milestone status changes to 🟠 (orange), indicating it’s awaiting client approval.

  2. Await Approval

    • After the client approves, the milestone updates to 🟢 (green), signifying it’s fully paid/completed.

One Milestone → One Payment Request

  • You can’t submit multiple payments for the same milestone while the first is pending or completed.

  • If your request is rejected, you may create a new request for that same milestone.

3. Draft Payment Requests & Edits

  • Multiple Drafts: You can have several draft payment requests for one milestone, but only one submission can be active at a time.

  • Contract Updates: If the client edits a milestone while you have a draft, your draft’s selected milestone will be cleared. You’ll need to accept the new generated contract and reselect the updated milestone version.
