Identity Verification with Didit

Worksome runs automated identity (KYC) checks on freelancers at the point of hire using Didit as our verification provider. This article explains what to expect if you are asked to verify your identity, how to complete the process, and answers to common questions.

Why Am I Being Asked to Verify My Identity?

Identity verification is a standard compliance requirement. When you are hired on Worksome, we may need to confirm your identity before your contract can proceed. This is an automated process that takes just a few minutes.

Who needs to verify?

All new freelancer hires globally may be asked to complete identity verification, with a few exceptions:

  • UK PAYE / Inside IR35 workers — Your identity is verified through the UK Right to Work process instead.

  • US W-2 payroll workers — Your identity is verified through the I-9 / E-Verify process.

  • Workers on other payroll schemes (DK payroll, AU payroll, global payroll) — Your identity is verified through the payroll onboarding process.

  • US 1099 contractors operating through a registered company (LLC, Corp, etc.) — The corporate registration provides identity verification.

If you are a non-payroll freelancer (e.g. sole trader, independent contractor paid gross), you will likely be asked to complete a Didit verification check.

How Does the Verification Work?

  1. You receive an email from background-checks@worksome.com with the subject line: "Identity verification required — action needed". The email explains the requirement and contains a verification link.

  2. Click the verification link to open Didit's secure verification portal.

  3. Complete three steps:

    • Photograph your ID document — Use your phone camera or webcam to take a clear photo of your passport, driving licence, national ID card, or residence permit.

    • Take a selfie — Didit will ask you to take a live photo to confirm your identity matches the document.

    • Submit — Your verification is processed automatically.

  4. Receive your result — Verification is usually processed within minutes. You will be notified of the outcome.

Verification Results

  • Approved — Your identity has been verified successfully. No further action is needed and your hire can proceed.

  • Declined — The verification was not successful. You may be asked to try again with a different document or clearer photos. If the issue persists, contact Worksome support.

  • Review — Your verification requires manual review by our team. This may take 1–2 business days. You will be notified once the review is complete.

Tips for a Successful Verification

  • Use a well-lit environment — avoid shadows on your face or document.

  • Make sure your ID document is not expired.

  • Remove any covers, holders, or cases from the document.

  • If using a phone, hold it steady and ensure all four corners of the document are visible.

  • For the selfie, ensure your face is clearly visible — no sunglasses, hats, or face coverings.

  • Use a modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge) for the best experience.

Accepted Documents

Didit accepts a range of government-issued identity documents, including:

  • Passport

  • National identity card

  • Driving licence

  • Residence permit

The accepted documents may vary by country - E.g. on the UK we only accept passport. If your document is not accepted, try using a passport, which is the most widely supported document type.

Frequently Asked Questions

I did not receive the verification email

Check your spam or junk folder. The email comes from background-checks@worksome.com with the subject "Identity verification required — action needed". If you still cannot find it, contact Worksome support and we can resend it.

The verification link does not work

Make sure you are using a modern browser. If the link has expired, contact Worksome support for a new verification link.

My camera does not work

Ensure your browser has permission to access your camera. If you are on a desktop without a webcam, try opening the verification link on your phone instead.

My verification was declined

Common reasons include blurry photos, expired documents, or a mismatch between the selfie and the document photo. Try again with a clearer photo and a valid, unexpired document. If you continue to have issues, contact Worksome support.

I have already been verified before (with Onfido or another provider)

If you have previously completed identity verification with another provider (such as Onfido, Accurate, HireRight, or Veremark), you may not need to verify again. The system checks for existing verifications before requesting a new one. If you believe you have already been verified but still received a request, contact Worksome support with your details.

I am on UK PAYE — why was I not asked to verify?

UK PAYE and Inside IR35 workers go through a separate Right to Work (RTW) check process. Your identity is verified as part of that process, so a separate Didit check is not required.

Is my data secure?

Yes. Didit is GDPR compliant, ISO 27001 certified, and SOC 2 Type II certified. Your identity data is processed securely and is not shared with third parties beyond what is required for the verification.
