Who is this for?

Available to all clients hiring in the UK, especially useful if you need to comply with IR35 regulations, generate a Status Determination Statement (SDS), or engage Sole Traders compliantly.

What you can do

From the Hire page, you can select an engagement type, run a classification flow, receive a classification recommendation or SDS, and send the contract to your worker.

Select the engagement type

Go to the Hire page and click Go to next to Select engagement type. Choose one of the following:

  • PSC (Personal Service Company) – triggers IR35 classification

  • PAYE – the worker will be paid through Worksome

  • SOW (Statement of Work) – for deliverable-based work

📌 If you choose PAYE or SOW, classification is handled in the background. You’ll go straight to contract review.

IR35 Classification

If you selected PSC, open the Classification tab and click Edit. The questionnaire has three sections:

  • Job-specific questions (e.g., supervision, equipment, control)

  • Company defaults – pre-filled by your admin

  • Engagement-specific details

All questions require a “Yes” or “No” answer. Avoid using “Don’t Know” as it will make the classification less accurate.

Create and Approve the SDS

Once the questionnaire is complete, click Create SDS to generate the IR35 determination. You’ll see either Inside IR35 or Outside IR35.

Review the outcome and confirm by selecting I have reviewed and approved this classification, then click Approve Classification.

Finalize and Send the Offer

After approving the SDS, the classification result will appear in the Contract Summary.

Click Finalise Offer to complete the hire flow and share the contract with your worker.

Things to keep in mind
You can change the contract type at any time before the worker accepts the offer. If needed, you can also redo the classification and generate a new SDS. IR35 only applies to PSC engagements—there’s no classification step for PAYE or SOW contracts.
